History of Morgan Furniture Center

William Morgan, originally of Cookeville and now from Sparta, started what is now Morgan Furniture Center as a television repair shop in 1965.  His business soon evolved into retail television sales as well as repair.  This evolution continued as he saw potential for appliance sales and service along with a new category, home furnishings.

Mr. Morgan's entrepreneurial endeavors were well rewarded as his company flourished under his leadership as he focused on servicing the citizens of Sparta, White County and its neighboring communities.  The business operated for most of those years as Morgan Furniture, TV & appliance.

In May of 1999, Mr. Morgan sold his company after owning it for 34 years to Don & Carol Blalock of Sparta and formerly of Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Mr. Blalock, former general manager of Brown's Furniture Distributors in Chattanooga, saw the potential for growth in the home furnishings end of the company and began an aggressive campaign to promote Morgan Furniture Center (its new name) as a more regional source for home furnishings, encompassing the whole of the Upper Cumberland trade area.

In May of 2001, the decision was made to eliminate the appliance portion of the business and continue the emphasis on being a complete source for home furnishings products. Today, Morgan Furniture Center aggressively pursues its goal to be the top consumer choice for quality, name brand home furnishings.  Recognizable lines carried by the business include: Broyhill, Lane, Ashley, Best Home Furnishings, and Sealy sleep products.  Morgan's is also a retailer of Shaw Rugs.

To ensure the company's continued growth into 2009 and beyond, Morgan's has been focused on four major brands to anchor their store. A new 5,000 sq. ft. Broyhill Gallery was opened in November of 2008 to go with their 3,500 sq. ft. Lane Comfort Showcase. Also remodeled and enlarged in fall of 2008 was their 1,500 sq. ft. Sealy Mattress Gallery, the largest "Sealy only" showroom in the Upper Cumberland area. Their Shaw Rug Gallery featuring Shaw's splendid collection of area rugs in all popular sizes completes their major product line emphasis for the home.

Morgan's goal is to offer the best value in the marketplace for medium-priced goods at the most affordable price. We want to insure that once a customer is sold that they become a friend, as well as a customer, by offering the region's best service after the sale. As proof for their success, Morgan's received the Cumberland Business Journal's "Ovation" award for 2008 for Best Customer Service at a retail establishment. Morgan's has also won the Sparta Expositor's "Reader's Choice Award" for Best of the Best in the furniture store category since its inception.
